Dave Austin English Shrub Roses

My earliest memories associated with flowers are of beautiful roses. I have developed a great love for roses. I remember as a child, I would go to my grandma’s house and help her prune her roses. This adventure brought me so much joy and excitement. The colors where vibrant, the smells were intoxicating, and being in nature brought so much peace.

The more I look back on memories like this, the more I realize my passion for roses and flowers started at a very young age.

One day when I was obsessively learning and searching about flowers online, I discovered some of the most beautiful roses I had ever seen. Dave Austin English Roses

Dave Austin, in the early 1950’s, set out to create a more beautiful rose, in the heart of the British countryside. He did just that. Now these exceptional and unique roses are available to everyone. These immediately became my favorite roses.

I’m obsessed with the English cottage design, full of pinks, whites, blues, soft apricots, and lime green color tones with occasionally a little yellow. I’m slowly turning my yard into this style, the best I can, considering I live in a desert with no humidity. In my opinion, no English cottage garden would be complete without this breathtaking rose. Fortunately for me, these roses have continued to thrive, year after year. If they didn’t, I might consider moving. 😄

Top reasons I love this rose and why you should buy them!

  1. The flowers come out cupped, elegant and timeless.

  2. Each rose bud produces numerous petals.

  3. Some petals have cute little button centers. These are so fun and unique.

  4. They are disease resistant and cold hardy down to zone 4.

  5. The smell of these roses are incredible. Some are so fragrant I can smell them from a distance. It’s heavenly.

  6. I particularly like the graceful stems and leaves. Some roses can be quite sticky and the bush quite unattractive. These are more graceful and don’t require a ton of pruning.

  7. The varieties I have bloom endlessly from summer to fall, with a brief break after the first round of blooms.

  8. There are so many varieties out there with different color choices to match your style. I lean toward soft colors such as soft pinks, pale yellows, and subtle traces of peachy apricot.

  9. They can handle heat. We received hot temperatures around 103 degrees quite frequently. It didn’t faze mine.

It’s winter here and I’m already counting down the days until I can get out in my yard and admire my roses. I actually preordered some bareroot roses for spring. When my door gets a knock from a delivery, and it’s a Dave Austin rose, I get butterflies! It reminds me of a time when, through a rare occurrence, some of these roses where delivered to me, but were meant to go to somebody else. I was tempted to keep them, but instead I hand-delivered them to the correct address, about an hour away. I was certain that the intended recipient was anxiously waiting for her roses to be delivered. I knew I was going to bring her so much joy, by delivering her lost roses. I did not want to miss out on that!
